Supporting Waverly, in Ways Big and Small

REFLECTIONS…

Mandy Boesche has been a part of Waverly since the beginning, first as a parent, then as the drama teacher for Middle and High Schools. She attended the very first WPO meeting and was a part of, led, or created many Waverly traditions, including the Halloween Party, the Holiday Show, and the Jog-A-Thon. She led the High School students in adopting the school colors and the raven as the school mascot. Mandy created and ran the all-school Holiday Show for 24 years and the Rock Festival for many years as well. When asked about her favorite times at Waverly, she writes:

“Those were the days! I loved my job – the students, the faculty, the staff, the families…

My FAVORITE memory???

That would be watching the proud and excited faces of students performing for the Waverly community – for their friends, their families, the staff―at morning meeting, at the Holiday Show, in plays and sketches, class reports, dance routines and the variety of music concerts where they showcased their interest in, and mastery of pop, rock and roll, American standards, jazz, classical music and so forth!

Speaking or performing in front of a class or a crowd takes a lot of courage. It is not easy – but the more one does it – the easier it becomes. This skill lasts a lifetime, and it serves students in so many ways. The confidence that speaking in front of group or audience builds is something they take into their future classrooms and careers.”
